On Thursday, February 22nd, SEA had some pretty important International Visitors stop in. Eight female engineers and scientists traveling the US with the Department of State's International Leadership Program, stopped in at SEA to gain understanding of educational institutes that champion the interest of women in STEM. Women in attendance were from the Czech Republic, Libya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, Sir Lanka, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. Their professions ranged from R&D Engineers to Software Engineers, Atomic Scientist, Sociologist and Economist. The women met with SEA staff and students and were very impressed with student autonomy, engagement, levels of questioning and collaboration witnessed. We were fortunate to have such visitors to confirm what we already know - great things are happening at SEA!

Last week we had a staff professional development meeting. We revisited the theories of Growth/Fixed Mindsets set forth by Standford researcher, Carol Dweck. Within our conversations, we also watched again Angela Duckworth's TED talk on Grit. If you haven't seen it, take the time to view and have a conversation with your family members. How is Grit being taught and enforced in your home? In your community? Watch here.

At SEA, outdoor learning is a normal part of our students' learning and teachers' instruction. In our Kindergarten classrooms, not only does intentional learning occur, but also free exploration and discovery in the outdoors is frequently scheduled. Check out what some of the research is reporting on the importance of taking children outdoors frequently, regardless the weather! Click here.

A great read for all of us with elementary aged and older kiddos at home. It's always a good reminder that our students need to learn about how to organize and that it takes practice. Enjoy this read.
